A SILVER INKSTAND, the bottle-mounts and feet struck with spurious marks for Paris, 1765, maker's mark JFB, the inkwells and pen-holders struck with marks for Oporto, circa 1850, shaped oval, on four massive pedestal feet, with applied berried laurel swags between, each end applied with lion's mask within entwined further berried laurel wreath, fitted with three circular recepticals, each applied iwth scrolls and laurel and enclosed by two candle-sockets and two covered pen-holders with berried form finial, the ground elaborately flat chased with foliate scrolls within matted borders, with applied reeded rim above vitruvian scroll apron--15½in. (39.4cm.) long, 149oz.
