STRASBOURG, 1765, MAKER'S MARK OF JEAN-LOUIS IMLIN III

Hexafoil, with incurved corners, the rim applied with tied reed, engraved in the center with a circular Greek key cartouche enclosing the foliate monogram EA under an Electoral bonnet, each on spreading foot of conforming outline, marked on reverses and feet--12in. (30.4cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Jean-Louis Imlin, one of the distinguished family of Strasbourg goldsmiths, was received as Master in 1746. After his death in 1768 his workshop was managed by Henri Alberti until the majority of Imlin's nephew Francois-Daniel in 1780 (See Hans Haug, L'Orfèvrerie de Strasbourg dans les Collections Publiques Françaises, Paris, 1978, no. 102)
