A LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUTED TULIPWOOD AND AMARANTH MARQUETRY ARMOIRE MID-18TH CENTURY
In the manner of Bernard van Risenburgh, with rectangular top above a serpentine cornice edged with ormolu bead-and-leaf banding above a pair of cupboard doors each with cartouche-shaped lunette and gilt grill above similar cartouches inlaid in bois-de-bout, the sides similarly inlaid, the rounded angles mounted with pierced foliate-cast chutes, the base edged in foliate strapwork on bracket feet, bearing the stamp Cressent, and an inventory mark representing two interlaced 'L's' with a fleur-de-lys (restorations)--67in.(167.5cm.) high; 54½in. (136.2cm.) wide; 17¼in.(43.7cm.) deep


This lot relates to a group of armoires and bibliothèques by Bernard van Risenburgh of arc-en-arbalette outline and with similar ormolu mounts. Among these is a more elaborate and lavish example stamped B.V.R.B., formerly in the collection of Antenor Patino and now in the Lourve, with doors decorated with Chinese lacquer panels. Another in the manner of B.V.R.B. in black lacquer was in the collection of Forsyth Wickes and is illustrated in C. Packer, Paris Furniture, 1956 fig. 85.

This lot relates to a group of armoires and bibliothèques by Bernard van Risenburgh of arc-en-arbalette outline and with similar ormolu mounts. Among thesse is a more elaborate and lavish example stamped B.V.R.B., formerly in the collection of Antenor Patino and now in the Louvre, with doors decorated with Chinese lacquer panels.
