Formed as a girl seated with a dog jumping up at her side buying a pastry from a vendor, standing, his basket resting on a treestump (her pastery and the dog's tail missing)--5in. (13cm.) and 6in. (15cm.) high, respectively (2)

Lot Essay

First modelled in 1757 by Falconet after Boucher, these two figures derive from a composition by Boucher, engraved circa 1763 by Louis- Marin Bonnet which shows the relationship between the two, see Pierrtte Jean-Richard, op. cit., fig. 337.
For a comparison between the male figure and the engraving see S. Ducret op. cit., figs. 322/3 where it would seem that the present lot is illustrated with an incorrect provenance.
