This is a reduction by Falconet of 1763 of his own marble group exhibited at the Salon of 1761. Examples of this, the smaller size, were sold for 240 livres each. The model was so successful that it remained long in production and in 1774 a pair to it, Prometheus, was commissioned. On a vase at Waddesdon (S. Eriksen, 1968, fig. 73) there is a depiction of this group, further evidence, if this is necessary of the pride of place this held among the factory's biscuit productions.
