Painted in colours with a loose bouquet of fruit and flowers and scattered bouquets within blue line and gilt dash bands edged with gilt lines, the handles moulded as foliage scrolls and shells enriched with blue enamel and gilding (minute chip to one handle)--17¾in. (45cm.) wide

Lot Essay

This seems to be the companion dish to the example in the Wrightsman Collection, illustrated by Carl Dauterman, vol. 4, pp. 239. The decoration, the incised mark and the painter's mark of Mereaud occur on both pieces.
