A SÈVRES GREY-GROUND RECTANGULAR BILLIARD MARKER
BLUE INTERLACED L'S ENCLOSING THE DATE LETTER II FOR 1786 AND PAINTER'S MARK PROBABLY OF LEVÉ

Painted in trompe l'oeil to simulate a white marble tablet supporting a shelf with an arrangement of roses and suspending festoons to each side, yellow and pink billiard balls to the top, center and sides, the bottom center and in groups of three to either side; the central field gilt with a cue and with scrolls enclosing the marker holes, terminating with gilt leaves and numbered from 1 to 20 down each side (chip to one corner, later painted and giltwood frame)--16¼in. (41.5cm.) high; 7¾in. (19.5cm.) wide
