Lot Essay

"Our Gang was a long running series of comedy shorts featuring a frisky band of children in a variety of mischievous situations. Launched by Hal Roach in 1922, it continued until 1944; in 1955 nearly 100 of the Roach shorts were released for television as "The Little Rascals" because M.G.M. owned the rights to the original "Our Gang" title. As the children grew, the cast changed from time to time, and included Jackie Cooper, Darla Hood, "Stymie" Board, and "Spanky" McFarland who took over the role of the chubby leader of the gang in 1932."--W.M.
