THE COLLECTION OF BRAGNO'S WORLD WINE, LTD OF CHICAGO Lots Christie's is delighted to offer this sixth and final installment from the comprehensive collection of wine from one of the country's most prestigious retailers, Bragno World Wines, Ltd. of Chicago. Armed with decades of family experience in wine bottling and distribution, the Bragno brothers Edward, James, Henry, and Carmen first opened doors in Chicago's Gold Coast in 1963. Given the proximity of the store to the city's major hotels, it quickly became the wine purveyor to the host celebrities and political figures that regularly passed through town. Both their business and reputation soared but it all came to an abrupt close last year when the store's lease was purchased to make way for a high-rise development. Though it encompassed fine wines from all major wine-producing regions, the backbone of the Bragno Collection was classified Bordeaux from the best vintages of the 60's, 70's, and 80's, all of which had been carefully cellared in the firm's cool underground storage. The offering in this auction includes not only classics, but also a wide range of wines which are mature and ready for enjoying now. All wines are of excellent general appearance, and samples tasted at prior auctions have been a full testament to the fine storage conditions under which the wines were cellared.
