GONE WITH THE WIND, 1939
A model train car from the classic film, created for the famous "burning of Atlanta" scene. The painted wooden car is designed with tooled slats and sits on a metal eight wheel carriage. Art director Lyle Wheeler came up with idea of setting a portion of the studio's back lot on fire, serving a dual purpose: simulate Atlanta burning, and demolish the old sets to make way for the new. An intricate system of oil and water pipes was designed to control the fire which Selznick Pictures announced as "...the largest of all film conflagrations--32½ x 13¼ x 9 in..
