A CHINESE SILK DRAGON CARPET

The main field woven with central dragon roundel surrounded by four triangular dragon panels at the four corners, all against a ground of interlocking stylized floral tendrils, bordered by dotted-line and key-fret pattern bands at the edges, all picked out in aubergine, olive, rust, brown, salmon and black against a shimmering golden ochre pile, weaver's inscription at top end - 9 ft. 1/12 in x 6 ft. (278 x 183 cm.)

Lot Essay

The five-character inscription reads, Bao he dian bei yong, and may be translated as "for use in the Pavilion of Preservation of Harmony"
