Of barrel shape, the sides pierced and molded with two pairs of confronted phoenix separated by monster mask reserves on a band of reticulated clouds, set between borders of raised bosses, with incised clouds above and foaming waves below, the domed top with four lotus leaves surrounding a pierced, central flowerhead, all in turquoise, yellow and cream on a rich aubergine ground, minor chips--14in. (35.6cm.) high, wood stand

It is unusual to find a reticulated fahua garden seat, although a pair carved and pierced with Buddhistic lions was sold in London,
