A GOOD MING BLUE AND WHITE MEIPING

Well painted in vivid tones of blue in the 'windswept style' with a scholar-immortal and attendant standing by a handled basket and hoe, within a landscape setting of plantain, craggy pine and other vegetation and below a cover of swirling clouds, bordered by a key-pattern band and lappets encircling the foot and high shoulder, the short waisted neck with a further key-fret band, foot chips - 14 in. (35.7 cm.) high

Lot Essay

This group of vases are invariably painted with scholars or sages with attendant figures in fantastic cloudy or misty landscapes. A vase with a similar figural scene from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. R. Palmer was sold Christie's Hong Kong, January 17, 1989, lot 574.
