A VICTORIAN SILVER CLARET JUG, London, 1874, maker's mark of Samuel Smily, ovoid with long sloping neck, on raised circular base, two sides chased with floral spray within star punched oval, the front with plain oval later engraved with script initials and dates 1920 1945, the back oval with rocaille, all divided by chased oval within shaped engraved frieze of foliate scrolls and floral sprays on finely matted ground, with rusticated grapevine scroll handle and join--14½in. (36.8cm.) high, 25.5oz.
