Lot Essay

Chokaro, one of the eight Taoist Immortals, rode thousands of miles a day on a magic white horse (mule). When Chokaro called him the horse grew to magnificent proportions and when he had finished his ride he shrank the horse and stored it in a gourd.

Masatoshi used the disc of the antler which attaches the main stem to the stag's skull to form the base supporting the horse. Masatoshi completed the carving in 1965.
