Lot Essay

This shade is identified in the Tiffany Studios 1906 Price List as model no. '1465. 16" Yellow Rose and Butterfly, honeycomb, dome' at a cost of $80.00. The shade, which illustrates Tiffany's ability to create a whimsical interpretation of nature in glass, depicts butterflies in flight above clusters of rambling rose blossoms, set against a summer morning sky. The other shade which depicts Tiffany's fascination with butterflies is the large butterfly shade on the mosaic primrose base which is noted as model no. '148' in the Tiffany Studios 1906 Price List.
