Phebe Louisa Pennington was born December 13, 1817 and was the granddaughter of William Stanford Pennington, Governor of New Jersey (1815-1818), and associate Justice of the Supreme Court until his death. William Sanford Pennington's son, William Pennington also served as Governor of New Jersey (1837-1843) continued his career in government as a Congresman and was Speaker of the House of Representatives (1860-1862) for more informatintion see The Pennington Family (Boston, 1871)
