French Colonies, Sol de 12 Deniers, 1767, countermarked "RF" c. 1793-4 and consequently, according to Breen (Complete Encyclopedia, #701) a "Collot," coin very fine, counterstamp extremely fine with an attractive medium brown patina
Note: Originally intended for the French Caribbean Islands these pieces were later counterstamped and found their way both to the Louisiana Territory and to the East Coast where they seem to have been particularly useful during the circulating coin shortage caused by the War of 1812.
