A LONG DINNER DRESS, BY HACHI

Of draped cream silk chiffon, embroidered overall with a vermicelli of translucent gold glass beads and crystals, the dress is bare on one shoulder. Roundels of intricately worked embroidery decorate one shoulder and the opposite hip. Worn on several occasions including a state visit to Japan, this dress also appeared at film premieres. It was one of the first columnar dresses to be worn by the Princess of Wales and it is the only dress made for her by Hachi. The dress was worn by the Princess for the dinner at The National Gallery, Washington D.C., in 1985.
