CONRAD, JOSEPH. 'Twixt Land & Sea. Tales. London: Dent 1912. 8vo, original green cloth, slight snag at lower edge of rear cover, green half morocco gilt folding case. FIRST EDITION, second issue binding with the word "Secret" on the front cover mostly erased and the word "Seven" superimposed (the first issue is rare). The noted collector John Quinn began acquiring Conrad manuscripts from the author in August 1911. The two carried on a correspondence, but never met (much to Quinn's disappointment). In Quinn's sale (Anderson Galleries, 1924) the Conrad manuscripts for which Quinn had paid some $10,000 fetched $110,000. With the Quinn bookplate (his sale, lot 1877). 'Twixt Land & Sea contains the first book appearance of "The Secret Sharer."
