Hickeringill (1631-1708), described in the D.N.B. as "eccentric divine and pamphleteer," published this, his first work, upon returning from Jamaica at the Restoration: "It is a clever description of the island, its products and people [designed to encourage English colonisation], interspersed with rude verses in coarse taste." Sabin 31693; Wing H 1816 (4 locations); see Cundall, Jamaica 266. Very rare, particularly with the map (usually wanting even in the second edition).
