Lot Essay

During the late 1760s and early 1770s Lépicié painted a series of portraits of young boys, usually his students, in bust length or half length formats all of a like size and composition. A similar example of a boy, bust-length and looking slightly to the right, entitled 'Portrait d'un Jeune Dessinateur' (15 3/4 x 12 1/2 inches) is in the Stichting Nederlandisch Kunstbezit, The Hague.
