A signed version of the above composition, measuring 28 x 36 inches, was on the London art market in 1946.
Three states of the etching by Lairesse are known. The first before letters, the second with a dedication 'Dno. Francisco Dusi Pictori eximio de se optime merito, Gerardus Lariesse beneficiorum non immemor D.D.D.', and the third 'Fortior est qui se quam qui fortissima vincit moenia' replacing the previous inscription. The etching varies from the painting in that the decorative surroundings have been simplified and altered somewhat, the caryatids have been removed, and the figures are larger in relation to the space (cf. Dr. J.J.M. Timmers, Gerard Lairesse, 1942, pp. 113 and 119, no. 32, print illustrated opposite p. 112, pl. XI).
