Yamawaki, a well-established architect in Japan, attended the Bauhaus under Mies Van der Rohe from 1930-32. While there, he produced an artistically impressive body of work documenting Bauhaus life and architecture. After his return to Japan, he became instrumental in spreading the Bauhaus aesthetic through his architecture, publications and exhibitions.
This, and the following 3 lots were, until recently, in the collection of the artist. Because Yamawaki's entire photographic ouevre was produced in the two years he spent at the Bauhaus, these prints are rare.
