Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1929
Pauillac, 1er cru classé.
Low-to-mid-shoulder level, deep color, excellent label
Once seen in auction salerooms on a fairly regular basis, jeroboams of this great classic are becoming increasingly scarce. This bottle was removed from the cool underground cellar of an English collector in
1979 and hand-carried to the current owner's cellar. Compared by Michael Broadbent to "a great diva", he further notes: "At his great Mouton tasting in 1986 Lloyd Flatt served a bottle (excellent), a magnum (slightly oxidised) and a jeroboam (perfection). At best: intensely deep yet luminous, with a fine gradation of colour; ripe, fleshy, corrupt yet with inimitably Mouton Cabernet fragrance, but much else: it evolved, revolved, in the glass. Distinctly sweet, concen-
trated, spicy, lovely fruit, persistence of flavour. Opulent. Sublime." JMB
