1933 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25 TOURER

The recession which followed the First World War influenced Rolls-Royce, who subsequently introduced a smaller model (to complement the 40/50 Ghost) which was better suited to the prevailing economic climate. In 1922, the 20hp model was launched, maintaining the standard of engineering which had made Rolls-Royce world famous. Because of its size it was cheaper and very much an owner-driver motor car. It was a commercial success, and the six-cylinder monobloc overhead valve design with detachable cylinder head, in unit with the clutch and gearbox, was to become the basis of all future six-cylinder cars until the late 1940s. The 20hp evolved into the 20/25 in 1929, the engine capacity being increased to 3.6 liters with a resultant brisker performance and greater flexibility in top gear.
Mr. Windsor purchased the GDX 30 in 1970 from Chedder Gorge Automobile Museum, in Somersetshire, England. Restoration was commissioned over a two year period and was completed by 1973. Subsequently the car has won first in its class at Pebble Beach in 1977, and first in its class at Silverado in 1978. Also in 1978, the car won second in its class at the Rolls-Royce National Meet. Since then it has been used lovingly by the Windsors.
The GDX 30 was originally delivered to Jack Barclay's with Park Ward Saloon coachwork. The very sporty touring coachwork was fitted, we are told, in the early 1950's. In 1997, Mr. Windsor repaired and restored the head gaskets, and elected to give the car a valve overhaul. All the electrical equipment received new wiring, including a rear reverse lamp and a Lucas King of the Road drive lamp. There is also a back-up electrical fuel pump, front seat lap belts, bulb horn, turn signals and external mirrors.
Some additional items that accompany the car include miscellaneous spares including an extra dynamo, the Rolls-Royce 20/25 manual, United Kingdom license plates, Whitworth hand tools, a folded top boot, tonneau cover, side curtains with a storage bag, car cover with the logo, and a parking cap. It is eligible for many Rolls-Royce Owner's Club and Classis Car Club events.
