1972 FERRARI 365 GTC/4

A new version of the 365 was introduced by Ferrari in 1971 at the Geneva Motor Show. The principle difference, in comparison with the old model lay in the engine which had four overhead camshafts with six double barrel carburetors placed externally rather than at the V of the cylinders. The new position of the carburetors and of the relative ducts reduced the emission of incombustible gases, thus respecting the severe United States regulations on atmospheric pollution.
As usual the bodywork was designed by Pininfarina. The 365 GTC/4 is a two-seater coupe which could also transport two or more people for short distances on the rear occasional seats. The 365 GTC/4 is a fast, powerful car and for the first time in the history of touring Ferraris the sales literature did not quote power output. It was in fact as much as 330-340 bhp at 6,800rpm. During their production run of just two years it appears that a mere 500 365 GTC/4s were built of which this is a fine example. "Road & Track's" test figures reveal the GTC/4 acceleration from 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds, 0-100mph in 19.3 seconds, 0-120mph in 30. seconds, with top speed at 6,350rpm in 8th gear at no less than 152mph.
This GTC was purchased in 1988 from a collector in Vero Beach, Florida. This owner has entrusted some major work to the car by the respected Ferrari agent, Shelton Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This work amounted to nearly $25,000 and included a beautiful new leather upholstery at cost of $9,500. At the time of purchase the new owner recorded the mileage at 29,600 and when the vehicle joined the Blanc stable the mileage was 34,290. Today the car has a recorded mileage of 35,074 which like many cars in the collection reflects the very careful and limited use the car has recieved during the current ownership. At the time of purchase Ferrari prices were subject to much speculation and were very much on an upwards cycle, this vehicle joined the collection for $155,000. Shortly after purchase Modena Sports Cars, Incorported of La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles undertook a major tune up of the engine and removed both the transmission and differential to replace the clutch assembly.
While the 365 GTC/4 may perhaps not be as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as many other Ferrari models they are an immensely pleasurable and fast car to drive on the road. It offers all the delights of a front engined V12 Ferrari for a fraction of the price of many other models. This, like all the Blanc cars, is a particularly fine example and this model would enhance any collection.
