Details
Château Lafite--Vintage 1959
Pauillac, 1er cru classé.
Excellent deep color and top-shoulder level, excellent label
Imperials of this wine are seldom seen on the marketplace. The 1959 vintage was widely hailed from the onset, and in fact was the first to be acclaimed "the vintage of the century". The reputation of the vintage has endured the past few decades, and the Lafite was recently noted by Michael Broadbent: "Overall, Lafite '59 has a deep, lively appearance, ruby centre grading off to a fine, mature rim; marvellously fragrant bouquet, touch of vanilla, cedar, citrus fruit, spice - it keeps evolving in the glass. Distinctly on the sweet side - ripe grapes, alcohol, extract, all the appropriate component parts. Fairly full-bodied, crisp, firm, yet fleshy, lovely flavour and great length." JMB
