TOYOKUNI: kakuban surimono (20.4 x 18.8 cm.); a half-length portrait of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII framed by a border of three orange squares representing the mimasu crest of the Ichikawa family, the role probably from the play Ume no Yoshibei, performed Bunsei 3 (1820), two poems, one by Sakuragawa Jihinari and one by Sotomizu Kaijo, signed Toyokuni ga- very good impression, good color, black lacquer printing on robe, a few spots and creases
