The molded broken swan's neck-pediment surmounted by ball and steepled finials above on arched molding over conforming panel door opening to white-painted dial face with Arabic and Roman chapter rings, floral and pheasant painted decoration, and inscribed, "Jacob Stein/Allen's Town," above a reeded molding over a waisted case fitted with a fan-carved and thumbmolded door flanked by reeded quarter columns above a reeded molding over a conforming square base, on a molded base with ogee bracket feet

Lot Essay

The distinctive shell-carved cupboard door, ball and steeple finials, pediment rosettes, and reeded moldings of the clock being offered here are features which can be found on a very similar clock signed "Jacob Stein/Northampton" and recorded in the Winterthur Library: Decorative Arts Photographic Collection, no. 81.2214. Two other clocks signed by Jacob Stein can also be found in DAPC, no. 72.752, and 77.267.
