Lot Essay

In addition to the identical stylistic manner between this work and both documented and attributed Gerhart works, the specific motif seen here is similar to a motif seen in the lower left corner of a Vorschrift by Gerhart illustrated FLP 958. See also FLP 944 for an unfinished Vorschrift, probably by Gerhart. The distinctive motif of a single flower joining two smaller flowering stems is a decoration seen in several of Gerhart's drawings including two bookplates (FLP 714 and 757) as well as the previously mentioned Vorschriften. This drawing is included in the Bucks County Fraktur Survey.
