Rectangular, the upper half decorated with two stylized striped and dappled red, yellow and green opposing birds flanked by scrolling red, yellow and green foliate vines, and all centering a stylized green, red and yellow flower with striped stem issuing brown and yellow leaves above a striped and dappled brown and red divide over a horizontal register inscribed, "Catherine Hillegas/February 12th 1837./Made by Geo. Gerhard." all in a striped and dappled brown and red surround

Lot Essay

This drawing is the only other known published signed fraktur by Gerhart. Gerhart left Rockhill Township in 1823 for Upper Milford Township, Lehigh County. He died in 1846 and is buried in Indian Creek, Washington County. This fraktur is included in the Bucks County Fraktur Survey.
