The arms are those of Mosley, as borne by Sir Oswald Mosley, 2nd Bt., born in 1785. He married in 1804 Sophia Anne, 2nd daughter of Sir Edward Every, Bt. He was MP for Portarlington 1806-1807, for Winchelsea 1807-1812, for Midhurst 1817-1818 and for North Staffordshire 1832-1837. He sold for 200,000 in 1845 the manor and manorial rights of Manchester to the Corporation of that town, just 250 years after the purchase of it by his ancestor Sir Nicholas Mosley in 1596. It had been offered previously to the Corporation by the Baronet, in 1815, for 90,000, but the offered had been turned down.
