LONDON, 1796, MAKER'S MARK OF SOLOMON HOUGHAM
Of vase-shaped form on square pedestal base with incurved sides supported by four ball feet, rising to fluted paw supports terminating in acanthus, with central fluted urn-form finial, the lower body chased with flutes, engraved front and back with an oval acanthus scroll cartouche enclosing a crest and monogram, below a band of acanthus scrolls and flowerheads on a reeded ground, with two ring side handles issuing from lion masks, with reeded spout (lacking handle), the fluted domed cover with part-fluted ball finial and engraved with a crest, marked on body, cover, lamp and lamp cover--15 3/4in. (40cm.) high
