Lot Essay

Jules Cauton first exhibited in 1876 in the Salon and was the director of the Sevres porcelain factory from 1891 to 1894. He received orders for various monuments in Paris and many of his allegorical bronzes were reduced in size and reproduced for the public market. The offered lot is the larger version of this casting (See P. Kjellberg, Les Bronzes du XIX Siècle,, 1987, pgs. 227,228).
