3The underlying theme of Los Mitos is the artist's belief that reality itself is a human myth. He demonstrates some of the religious and political concepts with which mankind has deceived itself throughout the ages--from the notion of progress and development to the idea of an inferno peopled by the demons and devils.

In the upper left of the painting, men on a scaffold pain a mountainous scene, thus indicating that reality itself is a myth created by man.
