F. Barbedienne (active 1838-1952) was the most important foundry of the time in France. The firm cast thousands of decorative objects and worked with the most important sculptors of the period.

The cave shaped clock applied with ribbon ties and foliate drapery, surmounted by a similarly cast urn with a finial and applied at the sides with foliate cast s-scrolling brackets, centrally fitted with a circular enamelled dial with Roman numerals, signed F. BARBEDIENNE. PARIS on a shaped rectangular leaf-tip cast plinth and bracket feet
