Of rectangular form with rounded corners, lacquered on the exterior in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e on a roiro ground with motifs alluding to the Yatsuhashi (Eight-plank Bridge) episode of the Ise monogatari (Tales of Ise), with criss-cross planks applied with silver foil spanning a stream, a multitude of irises springing from the waters, the interior lacquered in gold hiramaki-e on a bright nashiji ground with flying cranes and scattered pine branches, the base also nashiji
