Square with rounded corners designed on the lid with fourteen seated court poets in gold and simulated-pewter takamaki-e and inlaid glazed pottery and mother-of-pearl on a roiro-nuri ground, the underside of the lid decorated with a stand of bamboo in matching lacquer and inlays on the same ground; fitted in the black lacquer interior with a removable untensil tray holding an ochre-glazed pottery inkstone and a gilt-metal, rectangular mizuire, the rims of the box fundame
