A LACQUER POEM-SLIP BOX (TANZAKUBAKO)

The slender, slightly arched rectangular box raised on four bracket feet, lacquered on the lid and four sides in gold and silver togidashi, takamaki-e, hiramaki-e and inlaid aogai on a roiro ground with plovers flying between pine trees and above waves breaking on the shore, clouds in the foreground suggested by dense patches of mura-nashiji, the interior also roiro with cloudlike bands of mura-nashiji, the base with a brilliant nashiji ground, the bracket feet fundame
