(8 1/4 x 6 5/8 x 1 9/16in.), blue-gray crushed levant morocco, covers with single gilt fillet, around an identical pictorial scene on each cover of a large fish swimming with a naked baby amidst water reeds, gilt line scrolls, circlets and flower stems incorporating large circular corner ornaments each set with a flying seabird, small flower ornaments, the design executed in morocco onlays of three shades of brown, fawn, white, green and red morocco; spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt lettered in two compartments, a decorated gilt panel with red floral onlay in the rest, board edges with single gilt fillet, turn-ins gilt with corner ornaments of three impressions of a scallop tool, doublures and free endpages of gold watered silk, g.e., original cloth upper cover and backstrip preserved, stamp-signed by the binders on lower turn-in, one 1 1/4-inch crack at foot of upper hinge.
