(12 15/16 x 10 3/8 x 2 3/4in.), dark purple crushed levant morocco, each cover with identical but reversed gilt panel comprising four different ornate rococo-style corner ornaments connected by two double gilt rules, spine in six compartments, gilt-lettered in two, a repeated but inverted rococo ornament at head and foot of spine connected by double gilt rule at the sides missing the bands, turn-ins with gilt fillet and gilt pointillé borders and ornamental cornerpieces, doublures of yellow silk embroidered in lilac and yellow to a chinoiserie design, original printed wrappers preserved, gilt-stamped on upper turn-in: "P. Ruban", a few small light scratches to lower cover, minute wear to extremities. LIMITED EDITION, no. 9 of 20 copies on Japon (of 100 large-paper copies) from the edition of 650, title in red and black, 31 full-page line blocks, 1 folding map, numerous text line illustrations and 50 double-page etched and aquatint plates of bindings on laid paper at end, some showing more than one subject, numbered 1-47 and A-C.
