Modelled in the form of a phoenix with long tail feathers curled under the body and attached to the feet, the head turned back between the wings, details incised, covered overall with a celadon glaze, the two flat bases of the feet unglazed; in wood tomobako inscribed on the underside of the lid Seiji yu ho-o hachijusan-o Kozan zosaku Makuzu Kozan shiki (celadon glazed phoenix made by Kozan at age eighty-three, certified by Makuzu Kozan) and sealed Makuzu Kozan
