Lot Essay

In the New York Times review of the Artists' Fund Exhibition, this painting was described as follows:

"A lot of children standing by the railway side, cheering a passing train, which is only indicated by its shadow on the ground. It is well painted, and the conception is ingenius and pleasing. It is the happiest work we have seen from this clever young artist."
