A HUANGHUALI TABLE-TOP CHEST, GUANPIXIANG
17th Century
The flat-topped cover above a pair of paneled, well-figured book-matched doors flush with the framework, the interior with seven huanghuali drawers of varying sizes, the sides set with "ox-nose" bail handles with quatrefoil baitong mounts and knocking plates of similar shape, the top with ruyi-head corner mounts adjoining the rectangular corner pieces continuing down to a high base with corner reinforcements, the square hinges and foliate lockplate flush with the cover and doors, the latch and pulls pierced, inlaid with copper and with Buddhistic wan symbols
