The protruding round-cornered top frame supported on rounded corner posts, enclosing the single panels of the pair of doors opening from the removable central stile above the plain narrow apron, the interior with shelves and a pair of drawers, the front frame members and door panels of zitan, the back and side frame members and side panels of huanghuali

Lot Essay

Craftsmen of the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries occasionally produced furniture which combined huanghuali with the highly prized zitan. The present example is noteworthy in that no expense was spared in the use of material. The sides and back are entirely of huanghuali and the front zitan
