A DATED LARGE BAMBOO AND HARDWOOD ALTAR TABLE, TIAO'AN
18th/19th Century
The long rectangular top formed of two separate layers of hardwood planks with scrolled, everted "bird's tail" ends and supported on a bamboo armature comprising two rectangular box frames, each with four legs joined by a plain latticework trellis on one side and diagonal lattices front and back, the base joined by a single leg-encircling stretcher, the wide front apron under the top centered on a shou medallion and flanked by four fretwork panels on each side, the wide rear apron with seven fretwork panels

Lot Essay

The painted fourteen-character inscription on the underside can be translated as, "Made for the Mansion of Aixinning on the 3rd day of the ninth month of the Qianlong Emperor's reign", which corresponds to 1770. Aixin is the Chinese transliteration of the Manchurian family name of the imperial family of the Qing dynasty
