A DATED BAMBOO AND SOFTWOOD TABLE, TIAO'AN
18th/19th Century
The long, rectangular top formed of two separate softwood planks with everted "bird's tail" ends and supported on a bamboo armature comprising two rectangular box frames, each with four legs on one side joined by a plain latticework trellis on the front and a partial diagonal latticework trellis on one side, the base joined by two leg-encircling stretchers, the wide front apron under the top consisting of two plain fretwork panels separated by three diagonal-lattice medallions, the bamboo of a distinctive mottled pattern

Lot Essay

The thirteen-character painted inscription on the underside can be translated as, "Made for the mansion of Yaohengqing in the fourth month of the First year of the Daoguang Emperor's reign", which corresponds to 1821
