A variety of scenes and styles including two scenes of Jesuit compounds painted en grisaille; scenes of famous sites in Beijing; four processions; an outdoor entertainment with acrobats performing; an indoor scene of a play or opera; an execution; a battle; monks in a shrine; a scene of filial piety; a farming scene; a school examination; and various street scenes, including several dealing with medicine and acupuncture. All with inscriptions in Chinese and Russian on the reverse

Lot Essay

The brown leather binding is Russian made, in the style of the 1860's, and has a gilded title in cyrillic, "Album of Chinese Paintings". The Chinese inscriptions are written in black ink, the Russian inscriptions are in pencil
