The fluted boats and leaf-shaped stands each painted with an English coat-of-arms at one end and an eagle crest at the other, an inner leafy garland border and outer spearhead and band borders in blue enamel and gilt (some rubbing throughout, one stand with glaze cracks)--7½in. Lot Essay

The arms are reportedly those of Pattle impaling Aislabie (see D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 851 and p. 673), possibly for Thomas Pattle, a director of the East India Company from 1787 to 1795.
